Family Services Illawarra has made a commitment to increasing services in the Milton Ulladulla region, rejecting claims a supported playgroup is to be axed.

Parents say they were told the Milton Ulladulla Family Support playgroup, the Positive Parenting Program

[Triple P] and Seasons of Growth programs were going to close at the end of the year.

Family Services Australia CEO Gary Jackson said that was not the case. “We have never had an intent to close services in the area and have planned carefully with Nowra Family Support Service since October 2016 to ensure we build new service support for our local communities from July 1, 2018,” Mr Jackson said.

“In Milton-Ulladulla permanent Child Youth and Family Support (CYFS) staff are planning to deliver additional client support hours, while recruitment is planned for a further full time CYFS Family Support Worker in July 2018 to increase services. We are also supporting staff teams with new technology and access to a pool vehicle to aid local client needs,” he said.

“In bringing our multi-disciplined teams together we strive to reduce client referral pathways and improve integrated continuity of care for clients, across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions.

“We aim to do this through our Early Intervention, Families NSW, Child Youth and Family Support, Intensive Family Preservation and psychologist staff who support the needs of vulnerable families. “We sincerely look forward to supporting our local communities as we have done over the past 30 years.”
